Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about joining the RISE community, the Waldorf school, our building processes, and daily life in Costa Rica.

The Community

Every family at RISE is personally invited after a conversation with the founder. We curate the community based on shared values, focusing on conscious families, entrepreneurs, and those looking for an purposeful approach to life and education. Alignment comes first.

We are a truly global community. There are more than 40 families, 50+ kids, and over 20 countries represented, including: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA, Venezuela, and Australia.

It starts with a discovery call to ensure mutual alignment. If it feels like a good fit, we invite you to visit us and stay at Kinkàra. From there, you can select your lot and begin the process of joining the community.

The School

The RISE School provides a Waldorf-inspired education embedded in nature. As children grow older, the curriculum evolves to include entrepreneurial thinking, technology, and real-world problem-solving, equipping them with both imagination and agency.

Currently, the school serves children starting from early childhood (age 2) up through middle school. We are growing every year with our students, expanding toward a complete high school program focused on entrepreneurism and technology.

The school year at RISE runs from September to June, aligning well with international schedules and allowing for a long summer break.

The school is multilingual. Primary instruction is in English, with daily Spanish immersion, and a rotating third language (such as German or French) reflecting the diversity of our community.

The Building Process

Building a home generally takes around 1 year, broken down into 3 stages:

  • Stage 1: Designing. This can take 1 month or longer, depending on how quickly you finalize your vision.
  • Stage 2: Permits. This typically takes about 2 months.
  • Stage 3: Building. Construction takes around 4 to 10 months.

Yes. While we have a collection of home models designed specifically for our terrain and climate, you are completely free to bring your own architect and build a custom home.

We offer three main paths to building your home:

  1. Build yourself: You handle the process, and we simply supervise the building to ensure community standards.
  2. Use our models: Select one of our pre-designed models, make some adjustments, choose your materials and finishings, and be ready to start quickly.
  3. Custom design with us: Create a completely custom home design from scratch with our in-house team.

Lifestyle

Life here balances tranquility with deep community engagement. Days often involve walking children to the Waldorf school, working from the fiber-optic equipped co-working studio, picking up farm-fresh produce from The Stables Market, and ending the day at a community music night or family dinner. Everything is an invitation, never an obligation.

Excellent. We have fiber-optic internet running throughout the property, including to the co-working studio and private residences. Many of our residents are founders and executives who work remotely full-time.

Visiting

The first step is to schedule a discovery call with our team. Once we establish alignment, we invite you to book a stay at Kinkàra, our visit hub located right on the property. This allows you to experience the community, the school, and the land firsthand.

Pérez Zeledón is about a 3-hour drive south of San José through beautiful mountain roads. Alternatively, for those who fly, RISE features a private airstrip that connects you to San José in just 25 minutes.
